Possum dray making workshop at the beautiful Bundeena House

26 August, 2023 , 1:00 pm 3:30 pm AEST

Ringtail possums are tremendously cute, with round ears and little white tipped tails, they’re smaller and less common than brushtail possums. Unfortunately across the Shire many baby ringtail possums become orphaned, and need to be cared for by WIRES volunteers.

Once they’re old enough these little possums are moved into outdoor enclosures with artificial dreys, homes they nest in. In the wild, normally possums would build these themselves, but these little ones need help. When the young possums are released into the wild their dreys are put up nearby so they have a home and refuge.

Sutherland Shire Environment Centre members Annabel McTaggart and her mother Sue are also WIRES volunteers. They’re keen to share information about making these dreys, and are also seeking a hand from others to help build up their supplies.

Can you help?

The workshop will be at the beautiful Bundeena House located directly next to the beach at Bundeena. All materials will be supplied. It’s a great chance to catch up with other people who care about the environment and hear more about wildlife and our local ecosystems.

Numbers we can have in the venue are limited. Please rsvp. This will also give us an idea of what workshop materials we’ll need to bring. Entry is by gold coin donation.

WIRES South branch operates across St George and the Sutherland Shire. Each year WIRES volunteers rescue and care for over 2500 animals, over 150 different species of birds, possums, flying foxes, koalas, and reptiles.
